AG-- The followup messages you have recieved are leading you in the direction of Ireland as the birthplace of Thomas, father of Robert Cullen. I offer the following; I am a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow, N.S. This church existed before 1820, and was, until abt. 1895, a member church of the "Established Church of Scotland" {the Kirk} To this day, this church is called "the Kirk". The records of session for this congregation show that in 1850, Robert Cullen,{according to census records, there was only one Robert in Pictou County at that time} was "admitted" to session as an elder, and served until his death in 1884."Admitted" means he was ordained an elder in some other Presbyterian Church, before 1850, and transferred his membership. This information is available to me, because I am an elder in the same congregation, 148 years later. In order to be a Presbyterian Elder, There would have had to be a strong protestant influence in his early life. Idoubt if this would be true if he were of Irish stock. fc
