William Sample Cullen

Hello,

William Sample Cullen in 1840 in Baltimore MD. His father, William, was married to Helen Sample. William (father) is said to have been born on the boat coming over from Ireland, but we have no evidence to prove this. His son, William Sample Cullen, fought in the Civil War as a medic for the South. After that he moved to KY and raised a family in Carlisle and Ballard Co. I'd like to know more, if possible, about William Sample Cullen's background, because most of what we have is "family lore" rather than documents. It was said that his parents were horse-farmers around Baltimore, and that they had a falling-out when their son decided to fight for the South. He had wanted to be a doctor, but after the war he had seen too much pain and misery, so he became a farmer. Does anyone have any information or a connection? Thanks.
Ann Brown
