I wondered if this good soul might fit somewhere in your tree. I am not related & have no toher info.
Brooklyn Standard Union of Dec 9, 1918. Brother Ignatius CULHANE, O.S.F., who devoted fifty-two years to Catholic
education in the diocese of Brooklyn, died yesterday at St. Francis Monastery, Butler street. A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul to-morrow morning at 9:15 at which the students of St. Francis College
will be present. The Rev. Joseph McCLANCY, inspector of the parochial schools of the diocese, will be the celebrant of the mass.He will be assisted by the Rev. Dr. Herman PFEIFER and the Rev. Jose GLEN, chaplain of the
monastery. Brother Ignatius was professed by the late Right Rev. Bishop LOUGHLIN in 1866.The Right Rev. Charles E. McDONNELL, D.D., the present diocesan head, Bishop LOUGHLIN's successor, presided at the celebration
of the golden jubilee mass of Brother Ignatius' profession in 1916. Brother Ignatius, who is remembered with great respect and affection by thousands of young men who have passed under his care, was born in Riddleston, Rathkeale, County Limerick, Ireland. He came here in 1864
after a short stay under the direction of the Franciscan Brothers at Roundstone Monastery, County Galway. On his arrival at St. Francis', he became a friend of the late Brother Jerome. Brother Ignatius' teaching career began in Our Lady of Mercy School in Debevoise place.Later he was in St. Paul's and in Flushing. He also taught in St. Joseph's, St. Charles', St. Patrick's and in St. Mary Star of the Sea.When the late Rev. John F. NASH built the Sacred Heart School in 1888, Brother Ignatius became its first principal. Later he was appointed treasurer of St. Francis Monastery. He, since then, taught in the college until 1915, when, much against his will, Brother
Ignatius was constrained by his superior to give up the work of the classroom for a much needed rest.Brother Ignatius took a vacation of two months in the
summer of 1877 in Ireland, returning to America accompanied by his younger sister, who joined the Daughters of St. Vincent de Paul, at Mount St. Vincent on the Hudson, taking the name of Sister Joanne. She has been a professed
member for forty-two years.
