Dear Alan. Thankyou so very much indeed.
What can I say more than wow ! fantastic !
superb ! wonderful ! great ! amazing .
Your very wonderful email to me is such
a very precious Christmas and New Year present for me
and for my family relatives I know of so far
here in England.
How have you managed so very far away from England
to discover such depth of information about my family
my direct ancestors, it is truely very wonderful. And I am
so deeply very grateful. This gift is unique in my life.
Your information about my great-great-great grandparents
George and Grace Cudmore she born Grace Martin -in Dolton particulary very deeply touched me,
what hard tragic lives .
From what I understand of those terrible dreadful years
is that they must have been paupers living
in horrendous poverty. But I am so very grateful to those two farming families in Roborough that took in my great-great grandfather Thomas Cudmore and his brother my great-great uncle George.Alan do I take it right that you and I are related ? if so where do you come in the family picture. As you now know my great grandparents were
Mary Ann Cudmore who went on to marry my great-grandfather
John Friend from Dolton at Roborough Parish Church. My grandfather Thomas Henry Friend was one of thier children.
He moved up to live in London to join two of his sisters my great auntie Emily Friend and my great auntie Clara Friend .My grandfather married my grandmother Alice Mary-
Marcham , at Ealing in the west of London. My grandmother had moved up to London from her village of Aldworth in Berkshire ,she my grandmother came up to London to work
as a servant to rich people.
It is also interesting to me that I remember my grandmother telling my mother how that at one point before the second world war she and my grandfather Thomas Henry Friend had thought to emigrate over to Canada. Were you born Canada
and was your wife Mary born there.Have you folks ever been to Roborough and any other part of Devonshire.Have you ever
visited anywhere in England.I have a copy of the birth certificate of my great grandmother Mary Ann and one of her
wedding to my great grandfather John ,would you like me to send you photo copies of these. My grandfather always spoke
only in the past tense about his family in Devon. So my mother and her brother my uncle Stanley and I and his daughter Dawn only new about the little my grandfather told us.Imagine the shock I and my Mum had then when only in about the winter of 2003 I discovered in a very round about way that we still had two living relatives of my dear Mum down in Dolton. They are the daughters of my great uncle Arthur Friend one of my grandfather's brother's.And my great uncle Arthur my grandfather's brother had lived through much of our lives .We could have met him and his wife but never got the chance to because of my grandfather
not telling us about his still living family, astonishing !
With every very best wish to you and Mary and family.
