The name is probably from Bigfoot Wallace who surveyed most of Texas and was a Texas Ranger. He was a character in the Lonesome Dove Series, "Dead Mans Walk" by Larry McMurtry. Mr. McMurtry did take a bit of creative licence with the story, he had Bigfoot being shot in Mexico by a firing squad. Bigfoot actually died in San Antonio of old age.
My grandmother always talked of him being a cousin to her mother, Rachael Ann Cude Nelson. I have a picture of Him sitting with my great grandfather, Billy Frank Nelson and some other men playing cards.
Willie Nelson played an old Texas Ranger on an episode of Miami Vice years ago and they mentioned Bigfoot Wallace. My son looked at me and said, "Momma, there really was a Bigfoot Wallace"? I had passed the stories told to me by my grandmother on to him but he thought Bigfoot Wallace was just a made up name.
