Here is at least one angle on why these Cubitts were at Tanyrallt in April 1871. It seems that Charlotte Cubitt's sister married a Welshman from the locality, who had also spent time in Calcutta. From 1870 to 1872 he was building a large new country house (mansion!) called 'Abermad'. When I found that out I looked at the map and: Lo and behold! Abermad is almost exactly one mile from Tanyrallt! Looks like they were visting during construction and Tanyrallt might have been a convenient place to stay. Notably, not only was Charlotte Cubitt's husband a VC winner (Indian mutiny, 1857) but so was her sister's son (Great War). That helped me work this out! Notify Administrator about this message?
