Dear Teresa: I can't help but think that your ancestor and mine knew each other. Their histories are so similar. My great-grandfather, Jose Jacinto Luis, (1849 Guanabacoa-1930 Philadelphia), was a Cuban patriot who had to leave the country and go to NYC in 1874 where he received his M.D.from the Univ.of the City of NY (later Columbia?) in 1876. He married Francisca Iraola in Brooklyn and became active in the junta that eventually led to the Span.Amer.War. He had a colorful career. He was arrested on a dock in Baltimore as they were loading a ship with arms and ammunition. He was prosecuted in Fed.Court in Baltimore and sent to the City Jail for a year. The Cuban community there had a party for him when he got out.His daughter kept all the clippings in a notebook which I have and treasure! After the war, he ultimately became Cuban Consul in Phila. but the Cuban community was a close one and included NYC, Phila. and Baltimore. We share some of the same background.I'm sure your Dolores who is buried in Brooklyn is buried in Calvary Cemetery where my people are. Have you tried for the cemetery record there? I can give you the address.
