Looking for grandmother - Gegundez/Gomez

My father is a Cuban immigrant who has lost touch with his mother. The last contact he was able to make with her was in the late 1980s, at which time he learned she was quite ill. All attempts at contact since then have been to no avail.

She would now be in her late 90s and unfortunately, we are assuming she has died, but would like to know for sure. What is the best way to locate this information? Her name was Maria Gegundez Gomez and she lived in Havana.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
