Cuban Birth Certicate

This is my 1st post. My grandfather was born in Havana in the late 1800's. When he was just 13 years old, he jumped ship in New York and never had any contact with his family after that. The only thing my mother ever said about his past was that he was Spanish. Odd because his surname was Genna, which seems Italian?

I have taken a real interest in genealogy, especially concerning tracing his family further back, but have found nothing in the US that has been helpful. It would seem his birth certificate would confirm who his parentís were. I wonder if it would say where they were from?

I looked into getting his birth certificate once before, I didnít find any process that would be easy or affordable. Can anyone suggest something? Regards, Michael
