My paternal grandmother was said to be the illegitimate child of a man named Suey Cox. The spelling might be wrong, since this was verbal history. Mr Cox was said to own a sugar plantation in Cuba. According to family history, he died in a hurricane in Cuba. My grandmother was Nellie Mae, born in 1899 in Banks Co., Ga. Her mother was Nancy Jane Smallwood, born in 1873 in Georgia.
