Novice begins search of Cuban roots

It was a joy to discover this bulletin board! Although I have been very interested in geneology for some time, I did not know where to begin searching for my roots since all applicable documents were left in Cuba.

My Dad's family is from Nueva Paz, La Habana. My grandfather was Alfonso Falcón, born in 1899. There is a possibility that his family came from Islas Canarias and Galicia, Spain. He married my grandmother, Maria Isabel Gozález Martínez and had three boys, one of whom is my father.

My Mom's side of the family is from Oriente. My grandfather, Juan Francisco Guerra Estrada, was born in May, 1905. It is believed that he is related to president Estrada Palma! He married my grandmother, Clementina del Toro Fonseca, who died at age 19 during childbirth. They had two children. A couple of years later, my grandfather married Emma Tassé. Together, they had three children, one of whom died during childhood.
My grandfather, a very respected member of the business community, owned his farm in los Mangos de Baraguá. He grew sugar cane, and owned cattle.

I am interested in finding origin of both families, and perhaps, relatives in US. Any information you might be able to provide on either side of my family tree will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
