To study what was going on in Santiago de Cu ba in 1835 to 1838 you have to start by stu dying what was going on in Europe, Spain, Haiti and the rest of the Caribean nations and colonies in general. The history of all these places is interrelated. What was a Bostonian doing in Santiago? Well don't forget that Santiago was one of the main markets for slaves. The slave market in Santiago was not controlled by Spanish merchants but by British Merchants.
