Oh Mysterious Col Phineas Stevens:

Charles and I have collaborated on our research of this family & I do not believe that Phineas 2nd Col (1762-1829) father was also named Phineas; Phineas (Jr) who married Rhoda Glover would not be the III unless you have other information regarding Col Phineas parents that Charles and I are unwawre of. I am decended from Phineas Jr and Rhoda via their oldest son Alexander and Charles is decended from Col Phineas 2nd.

The source is easily found for their marriage in the town of Phelps where Rhoda moved with her uncle Alexander after the death of her family in Conway, MA; Here is a clip from the Geneva Gazette Newspaper:

"17 December 1817

MARRIED - In this village, the 14th inst., by J. Dox, Esq., Mr. James Gallagher to Miss Elizabeth Hentson.

In Phelps, the 7th ult., Mr. Phineas Stevens, Jr., aged 21, to Miss Rhoda Glover, aged 35.

At West Bloomfield, the 20th ult., Gen. Hugh W. Dobbin of Junius to Mrs. Martha Sears, of the former place.

In Canandaigua, Mr. Amasa Nott to Miss Lavinia Hotchkiss. Mr. Joseph Butler to Miss Rebecca Newton.

In Gorham, Mr. Walter Wells to Miss Abigail Lockwood."

Feel free to conatct me regarding this family as I am activly researching them and putting together a family history,

AKA Archydigger
