COWEN or COWING Family of Tolland CT

I have noticed that this family is referred to as both Cowen and Cowing.

I am trying to determine if my gg-grandfather, Theodore Cowen, was the son of Eddie Cowen of Tolland, Connecticut (b.1781 RI - d.1850 CT).

Eddie was the son of John Cowen (b.1754, Glocester, Rhode Island - d.1845 Conewango, NY) and Olive Smith (b.1763, RI - d.1832, Tolland CT), and he did have a son by that name.

Information is available for Eddie's sons John M. and Norman E. G. Cowen, but I haven't found anything about Theodore to help me confirm our relationship.

COWEN Theodore (b.1822 CT) & Marilla (b.1822 NY)
I do not know Marilla's surname.

Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Marsha
