States: Connecticut: New London
I'm looking for more info on CAPTAIN GAIUS POMEROY, Ship Captain, who lived in New London, CT. in the 1800's. He was married to ELIZABETH BOLLES and they are reported to have had 5 children. I have only a name for FRED, but haven't found him mentioned anywhere. One daughter, ADA, was born at sea, while her mother is said to have sailed on her husband's ship. The other three children are mentioned as living with their parents in the 1870 US Census in New London: ANNA was 19, CHARLES was 8, and SARAH R was 5 years old. GAIUS was the son of ALPHEUS POMEROY, and little is known about his family. He seems to have been a seafaring man, as was his other son, JOHN POMEROY. ALPHEUS and JOHN are said to have settled in California. I have posted what I've found on this family on my POMEROY FAMILY TREE on Ancestry.com. Their line is Gaius, Alpheus, Phebus, Medad, Medad, Joseph, Medad, and Eltweed Pomeroyy, a Puritan who came to America about 1630, as found in The History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family, published in 1912. We'll appreciate any info about this family! We're researching them for the American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association , www.americanpomeroys.org.
