After 20+ years of searching I am still hitting brick walls regarding who the ancestors of my great great grandfather Denison B. Smith (1827-1862) was? I think I am getting closer. In the "...History of Rev. Nehemiah Smith...." under "other Smith Families" they have his father as a Samuel C. Smith who they have being born in New Hampshire and lived in Waterford, New London, CT. (see below) I have located Samuel Smiths in early census records residing in Waterford but cannot be positive it is him. And I also found a Samuel C. Smith in Salem in the 1830, 1840 & 1850 census. This Samuel they have as a vet of the Rev. War, which is impossible for he was born abt 1795. But he was probably in the War of 1812. In the 1850 Salem census they have him married to a "Keturah" residing in Salem and a Mariner (Denison B. Smith is also listed as a Mariner in the same census year in New London). IF this helps, Denison married Eliza B. Woodbride and they, son some of their children, are buried in the Star Cemetery in Groton. ANY information on this family, however small, will help me. Robert Hoadley In "A Genealogical History of the Rev. Nehemiah Smith of New London, Co" 1888 this record appears under "Other Smith Families of New London": Samuel C. Smith (1) of New Hampshire; res. Waterford, Conn. Capt. Denison B. (2); res. Groton, Latham A. (3) and other Ch., Smith Lake Cemetery. Not sure about the Smith Lake reference. Denison and most of his family are buried at the Starr Cemetery in Groton not the Smith Lake Cemetery. Perhaps this is where Samuel is buried (?) I am sure this is my Denison B. Smith for he lived in Groton, was a mariner (never before saw "Capt." before) and Denison had a son named Latham. Notify Administrator about this message?
