Thank you Albert for all this great information! You have uncovered so real nuggets, and answered some questions. You really put a lot of time into this, and put pieces together.

One more piece to add to the puzzle:

1870 Census
New York Ward 20 District 18, New York, New York
John Stickney       25
Ellen Stickney       20
Maud Stickney       11/12

The age of Maud (not even a year), as well as the names/ages of John and Ellen match perfectly to later censuses that you found. And it makes sense that with the later census saying Emma had only two daughters, that they other children listed as "her children" in the census were in fact her step children.

Will have to request some of the original marriage and death certificates to confirm some of your conclusions.
