Thanks for replying to my post, Betty. I am well aware of what you are saying about census searches. Variable spellings of surnames often have to be entered before records can be found. I have all the census records that are available regarding the people whom I mentioned in my original post. What I am trying to do now is getting some correct dates of BMDs in order to make my family tree more complete.
I have also found immigrant ships for these people on castlegarden.org. These passenger lists are useful in trying to ascertain a degree of certainty in regards to where they lived before they came to America. When I get the time, I will pay a visit to Connecticut State Library to see if I can find some accurate dates for births, deaths, and marriages. I'm also considering visiting the Archdiocese of Hartford Archives Office for marriage and baptism information.
Someone on another Genforum has pointed out to me that newspapers may have been reluctant about publishing information regarding Irish Catholics during the 1850s due to the influence of the Know Nothing Party at that time. Many members of that political party held high offices in New England prior to the Civil War. Perhaps I will have better luck poring over some of the publications that are housed at the Archdiocese's archives.
Dave
