Seeking James Kirtland m. before 1814 to Sarah Goff

I'm working on a branch of the Kirtland family for a friend of mine. I've been able to trace back to James Kirtland, married before 1814 to Sarah Goff, using census, Ancestry World Project, FamilySearch, and other data. James and Sarah were both buried in Eight Square Cemetery, Jasper Township, Steuben County, NY.

I've not been able to connect to James' parents. My friend believes that James is a descendant of the Saybrook, Middlesex County, CT line of Kirtland's, originating from Sherrington, Buckinghamshire, England.

Any help would be appreciated.
