Connecticut Revolutionary War Document - May 15, 1775
I came across an original document and wanted to share the contents with researchers. It is a Revolutionary War document dated May 15, 1775 and has information about Waterman Clift as well as his signature. The text is: "Pay to Captain Walterman Clift Five hundred twenty pounds lawful money as he is paymaster of the 6th company in the 6th Regiment now raising for the defense of this colony and charge the same to Account of the colony of Connecticut May 15, 1775." Underneath it reads "To John Lawrence Treasurer - 520 pounds." It is signed "Oliv Ellswerth, Thos Seymour, Wm Pithin - Committee" On the reverse side it reads "Hartford 15th May 1775 Recd of Treasurer Lawrence the Contents, Waterman, Clift (signed in his hand)" and on the opposite page appears to be the result of a later audit which reads "No. 1476, Order Capt W. Clift Date 15 May 1775 520.00 pounds Audited May 13th, 1776 C.S."
Hope this helps someone.
