By the way, it appears that the conflicting information of "Mansfield, Connecticut or Mansfield, Massachusetts" came from a response to a 1928 inquiry into Kitteridge Davis' pension file. That letter became a part of the pension file. The commissioner or his clerk, who answered the letter, scanned the pension file and made that ambiguous birthplace statement.
If you read the file for yourself, Kitteridge was quite clear in his testimony that he was born in Connecticut.
