Hello.
I scoured the Hartford Courant hoping to see mention of any shipwreck in that area or with Cranton as the captain but nothing came up. The Courant would write about shipwrecks that occured anywhere.
Have you seen the book:
History of Inverness County, Nova Scotia
Bellville, Ont. ::Mika Pub.,,1922,695pgs.
By J. L. MacDougall
on pages 445, 449
Mentions that Capt. Robert Cranton was a "native of England" and owned the ship that he arrived in Margaree Harbor with (still doesn't name it). He traded between Margaree Harbor and New Foundland and the adjacent islands.
Pages also mention that he had 3 daughters, 1 named Sarah who married John Phillips and Englishman. The book lists some of the descendants of son Robert, Jr. and daughter Sarah.
Thomas Etheridge was the man in his employ who married his widow.
If you haven't seen this book I can send scanned copies of the relevant pages to you.
