John and James Farrell in Waterbury, CT. Circa 1850.
The archivist for the Hartford Archdiocese was able to forward to me the dates for a marriage and a birth in Waterbury, CT. The information is given on old church ledger pages which have Latin given names and Latin descriptions (often abbreviated) regarding the events and the participants.
John Farrell married his second wife, Anne Bergin, on August 12, 1858. This event was witnessed by James Farrell and Marie Lawlor at the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury,CT. The Reverend Father Sheridan administered the sacrament of marriage. John Farrell's first wife, Jane Conroy, died sometime in 1857. I am now trying to figure out the relationship between John and James Farrell. Were they brothers or were they cousins?
Elizabeth Farrell was baptized on May 18, 1851. She was the first born child of John Farrell and Jane Conroy. She was either born on May 1 or May 11, 1851. It is very difficult to decipher the handwriting from the old ledger page.
Any suggestions that you may have regarding how to determine the relationship of the groom and the best man will be greatly appreciated.
Dave
