Thanks for replying to my post, Margaret. I recently visited the Town Clerk's office in Waterbury and the clerk told me that I could only order records dating back to 1886. They charged me $10 each for two death certificates from 1895. Due to the renovation of the City Hall, access to viewing ledgers by researchers is restricted for the time being. We also have to take into consideration that records were destroyed when the City Hall burned to the ground back in 1912. Records for the years that I mentioned in my original post (1857-1859) probably can be found in Hartford at the State Library. Of course, I am assuming that Waterbury vital statistics were turned over to the State of Connecticut on a regular basis. Perhaps the state records are more complete than the records that are currently housed in Waterbury. Currently, I am contacting Waterbury cemeteries and funeral directors in my attempt to get accurate dates of death for several of my ancestors. Without some accurate dates, research is futile. Clerks and archivists won't do anything for me if I only give them a year for a marriage, a birth, or a death. For anyone interested in using the Barbour Collection, all the BMD information from the BC about Waterbury is contained in Anderson's "History of Waterbury". People can download this book at archive.org or iconn.org. The only mention of my ancestors in the Barbour Collection is the July, 1850 marriage of my great grandfather. I have a question for you at this time, Margaret. What kind of cooperation can I expect to get from the Catholic cemetery managers of Waterbury? Many people in other forums say that by just sending the cemeteries self-addressed stamped envelopes garnered them a lot of information about their ancestors. I guess I'll have to wait and see if there is any information about my ancestors who were buried in Calvary Cemetery and Old St. Joseph's Cemetery. My best regards, Dave Notify Administrator about this message?
