I have a William Wakeman SHERWOOD, b. abt. 1797 in Connecticut, according to the 1860 and 1870 censuses. He lived in Southport and Bridgeport, Fairfield County, CT. Some Ancestral File genealogies at FamilySearch say his parents were Walter SHERWOOD and Lucretia SHERWOOD (they had different sets of parents). However, there's a problem with that. Walter and Lucretia married in 1807, and Walter would only have been 14 years old when William was born, since Walter was born in 1783. Lucretia, born in 1789, was even younger.
So, who were the biological parents of William Wakeman SHERWOOD, and did Walter and Lucretia actually raise him? Is there someone who has a document, such as a will, that might shed light on this question?
