Hi Robin
I found a couple of Solomon Smiths one born in Greenwich Ct Birth 15 March 1740 son of a Benjamin no mother listed...

Another was Solomon Smith born 31 August 1761 Windham Ct child of Solomom and Eunice

Still another Solomon born 6 Feb 1766 Stamford parents Jihnathan and Abigail

Im not related to Smiths at all
In these early days people moved for vatious reasons...They could be following work....They could be part of a church and sometimes whole churches packed up and moved to different states to preach and families went with them.....Solomon could have been a soilder and this is where he ends up is in Alabama and he likes it there and he sends for his family...many reasons why they movedaround.......Other family members could have moved there first and they relocated to live near them....

Good Luck
Flo
