Hello.
The census in very rare cases will show an actual town name where the person was born, you are lucky because in the 1930 US Census it shows the town in Germany where your 2G-Grandparents were born but also the town names of where their parents were born. Extremely lucky!
(1930 U.S. Census)
CONNECTICUT , TOLLAND, 4-WD ROCKVILLE
NARA Series: T626 Roll: 284 Page: 266.
ED 23, sheet # 1B, address: 17 Ward Street
head: Charles MERK, aged 59, arrived 1892, weaver/woolen mill, born Lambrecht, father born Godramstein, mother born (looks like Nommeldgl). (all Germany)
wife: Margaret, aged 58, arrived 1893, born Lambrecht, father born Lambrecht, mother born Frankweiler (all Germany)
dau: Anna A., aged 23, born Connecticut
son: Russell E., aged 15, born Connecticut
Looks like Lambrecht, Godramstein and Frankweiler are in the Rheinland Pfalz area of Germany, "Nommeldgl" doesn't
come up in any search, enumerator may have misspelled it .
Now if you can find out when and where Carl & Margaret Merk died you can send for their death certificates which in most cases will show the parents name.
Good luck
