I am trying to trace my ancestry back to the mid 1700's in Litchfield county and specifically to Canaan, Cornwall, Litchfield and Bethlehem. I have been able to follow my heritage to my 2great grandfather James Green and my great grandfather who immigrated from Ireland to Cornwall in the mid 1800's. Their names were James and Lawrence Green respectively. They farmed and raised families in Cornwall. Later some of their sons moved to Torrington and Waterbury for employment. And some of the daughters married and followed their husbands to these cities. I was born in Waterbury in 1947. I began thinking why would these Irish-English ancestors settle in a small rural town in northwest Connecticut. It makes sense that they knew people living there, probably family. I have had no success trying to find my ancestors back in Ireland. I discovered that there were Greens living in Cornwall, Canaan and Bethlehem in the mid 1700's. The only names I have in Cornwall is an Elizabeth Green, born 8 Apr 1747 and a Hannah Green, born abt. 1750. There is also a Samuel Green Sr. , born in 1753 in Canaan and died in Litchfield in 1811, his wife Anna (Clark) Green, two sons and two daughters. All but one daughter moved to Ohio in the early 1800ís. Susanna (Green) Beech was born in Litchfield 13 Apr 1777 and died in Litchfield 10 Jun 1847. There was also a Lucy Green living in South Canaan in 1824, an Edward Greene, born in 1808, an Olive (Green) Pierce born 1 Nov 1737- died 6 Nov 1822 and an Alden and Mary E Green born 15 Apr 1826 and 17 Feb 1826 respectively. I also found an Eleazer Green, died before 1835 who lived in Bethlehem and a James Green, born 16 Nov 1765- died 13 Nov 1836 in Warren, CT. His parents were Jacob Green, born in 1740 and Sarah Kinney born 1743. They also lived in Warren. If you have any information or potential leads as to a connection between the 18th and my 19th century Greens I would be very appreciative.
