Donna,
Isaac was in Granby on the 1830 census with wife and four children (boy and girl under 5 and boy and girl 5-10). 10 houses away was Enoch Buttles. No other Cadwells in Granby. In 1800 Isaac was in New Hartford in Litchfield County in the 45 and older bracket and does not appear in later census records in CT. Only two Buttles in CT in 1820 were Joseph in Canton and Enoch in Granby. No Buttles show up in Canaan. What kind of a record for the Cadwell / Buttles marriage did you find in Canaan? Is it possible that the marriage took place in Granby but Hiram's parents had it recorded in Canaan (just for a local record). Canaan is 41 miles from Granby, and it's an hour's drive on today's roads. It must have been a considerable journey in 1821.
Have you tried the Barbour Collection of Vital Stats of CT?
Bill
