I'm familiar with a Jonah in the Barto family, but had ruled it out, based on some of his records I had looked at. However, I may need to look again. A tree chart of the Francios Barteau who stared it all, that I obtained from the main public library in NYC, had a line I thought Giles may have come from, for it contains some other men with the name Gilbert. Have you seen any of these names:
William R. and Benjamin (b. early 1800's (can't read the date) sons of John b. 1709, son of John b.?, son of Francios. Are you related to this family?
