I tried an alternate spelling of MacCool for Thomas to see if he could be located on a census prior to the 1920 with the spelling of MacCool. I found the following:
1910 Brooklyn NY - 328 Palmetto Street
Thomas C. McCool Age 26 born NY parents Scotland (different than 1920)
Anna Age 26 born NY parents Ireland (different than 1920)
Gladys Age 5 born NY
James Age 3 born NY
Laurence Age 1 born NY
They list being married 6 years (circa 1904) - having 4 children at the time, 3 were living. Thomas worked as a shipping clerk at a grocery house.
