Indeed it is strange as Potwin (or Potwine) isn't that common a name. Did any of your family come from CT during the 1800's? My Thomas Potwin's full name was Thomas Stroughton Potwin, b. 4 Apr 1829 in East Windsor, CT; d. 22 Oct 1896 in Hartford, CT. He married Harriet King in 1858. There's quite an extensive pedigree for Thomas in the LDS file if anything strikes a bell with you.
