"The Hartford Courant" [Hartford, Hartford Co., CT], 1 Nov 1899: RECENT DEATHS. Mrs. Margaret Colvin Thompson Mrs. Margaret Colvin Thompson of Avon died last week Wednesday. She was born in Avon, September 25, 1831, and enjoyed all her life the companionship and love of the friends of her early years. She married Oliver Thompson [son of Captain Thaddeus Thompson] June 3, 1858, and he died a few years ago. Both Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were earnest, Christian people, and friends and neighbors, poor and needy, sick and suffering all lose by her death. She was loved by all who knew her. The funeral services last Thursday were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. John H. Hawley of West Avon, and were attended by a large number of friends. Mrs. Thompson leaves three brothers, five sisters, two sons, Howard and Joseph, a daughter-in-law, two grandsons and many other relatives. ___________________ "The Hartford Courant" [Hartford, Hartford Co., CT], 21 Sep 1917: OBITUARY. Mrs. Mary Ward Colvin Moses Mrs. Mary Ward Colvin Moses of West Avon, widow of Charles I. Moses, a well known farmer, died in Hartford yesterday. She was one of a large family. Her father removed to West Avon when she was a child to aid in the development of the Northampton canal. One sister was the widow of Oliver Thompson, a prominent resident of that town. Mrs. Moses was over 90 years old. She had lived a useful life and was much respected by her friends. ___________________ From "The Hartford Courant" [Hartford, Hartford Co., CT], Sunday, 28 May 1933: Arthur E. Colvin Farmington, May 27 -- [Special.] -- Arthur E. Colvin, 72, of Farmington, died at Hartford Hospital Saturday evening. He was born in West Avon in August, 1860. For 37 years he was employed by the Sessions Hardware Company of Bristol, coming to Farmington in 1916. Here he was connected with the F. P. Swanston hardware and plumbing business. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Gertrude [Hart] Colvin; a son, Harry Colvin of Bristol, and a daughter, Mrs. William Strunz of Plainville, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. __________________ "The Hartford Courant" [Hartford, Hartford Co., CT], 11 Jul 1937: Eugene M. Colvin Funeral. Eugene M. Colvin of 321 Buckingham Street died Saturday morning at his home. He was born in Avon, the son of the late Timothy and Eliza Latham Colvin. He was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workman [sic] and leaves a wife, Mary E. Smith Colvin, a daughter, Miss Elizabeth J. Colvin; two sons, James T. Colvin and Harry J. Colvin; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Dillon's Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, with a solemn requiem mass in St. Peter's Church at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plainville. ________ COLVIN -- At his home in Hartford, July 10, 1937, Eugene D. Colvin, husband of Mary E. Colvin of 321 Buckingham Street was held Wednesday with a solemn requiem mass in St. Peter's Church. Rev. Robert W. Doyle was celebrant assisted by Rev. Thomas H. Boland and Rev. Robert J. Shea. The bearers were James H. Pentalow, Edward J. Pentalow, John E. Pentalow, James F. Butler, Leo E. Fuiden and James H. Colvin. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plainville. Rev. Francis J. Finn of Plainville and Father Shea conducted the service at the grave. ___________________ "The Hartford Courant" [Hartford, Hartford Co., CT], 28 Jan 1939: Mrs. Sarah C. Colvin Avon, Jan. 27. -- [Special.] -- Mrs. Sarah Curtiss Colvin, 92, the oldest resident of Avon and widow of Frederick Colvin, died at her home in West Avon Friday. She was born in Newington, November 6, 1846, the daughter of Loren and Susan Skaats Curtiss. She leaves a daughter, Miss Ethel I. Colvin of West Avon; a step-daughter, Mrs. Warren Palmetier of Oakville; a sister, Miss Virginia Curtiss of West Avon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at home at 2 p.m. Rev. Kenneth Slorp, pastor of Unionville Congregational Church, will officiate and burial will be in West Avon Cemetery. ___________________ Notify Administrator about this message?
