This is a tragic one: From "The Thompsonville Press" Thursday, May 8, 1824 WOMAN SHOOTS SELF IN FIT OF DEPRESSION Mrs. Charles Menzler Dies in Springfield Hospital Tuesday Morning- Was well known Resident Mrs. Charles Menzler, who shot herself at her home on Burns Avenue Monday afternoon during a period of mental depression died early Tuesday morning in the Springfield Hospital. Her husband, who is employed as a baker for J. Mylek, Polish Baker on North School street, and one of her daughters, were downstairs. Mrs. Menzler went upstairs and a few moniutes later a shot was heard. Rushing upstairs the daughter found Mrs. Memzler lying on a couch, with a wound to in the left breast. A later examination disclosed that the bullet had lodged in her back. Dr. Frank F. Simonton attended the woman and ordered her removal to the hospital for further treatment. Mrs. Menzler was 44 years old and a native of Germany. Besdies her husband she leaves three daughters and one son. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from her late home on Burns Avenue. Rev. August Finnance, assistant at St Patrick's church, officiated. A requiem hig mass was celebrated in St Patrick's church this morning at 9 o'clock in memory of Mrs. Menzler. Mrs. Frederick R. Furey was soloist at the mass.
