Looking for advice on finding a death record or obit

I have an approx (within 2 years) date of death, 1938/1939. It was a suicide, or so I'm told. She was approx. 34 or 35 years of age. This suicide occurred in Manchester, CT. Would there be a newspaper obituary I could look up? Would this type of death been reported in the newspaper? Or would it have been kept out? Just looking for ideas on where to look.
