Thomas Hooker, the fighting preacher, is considered the father of Constitutional law. He founded Hartford in 1636. Hooker had be exiled in Holland and his flock had removed from England to Cambridge MA. In 1633 his followers sent a letter requesting he join them in the New World. He secreted back to England and sailed to America in 1633. His daughter Mary, married Rev Roger Newton, who was educated at Kings College Cambridge U and later Harvard. Rev Newton studied under Hooker and was the first pastor at Farmington. The congregation broke up and later Newton succeeded Rev Peter Prudden at the pastor at the First Congregational Society of Milford (1660-1683).

Rev Hooker is buried in Hartford (table monument) and his grave is in excellent shape. Rev Newton and wife are buried in Old Milford Cem.

Four Samuels, and Enoch, and a Roger Beecher Newton later, daughter Harriet L married Jasper Mallory, son of Joseph (aka Jasper Mallory) and Susannah Pond of Milford. Susannah's Pond ancestors came on the Arabella with relative Gov John Winthrop in 1630.

Rev Roger Newton 1607 - 1610 England Roger entered King’s College, Cambridge Easter 1636 and emigrated to New England 1638 when he entered Harvard. He was a student of Rev Thomas Hooker, his wife’s father, at Hartford and became the first pastor at Farmington c 1645. He was later second pastor at Milford, installed there, succeeding Rev Peter Pruden (Pruden joined the Hector passengers at Boston joining in the colonization of New Haven) 22 Aug 1660 serving for 23 years until his death d 7 Jun 1683 Milford, Ct =1644/5 Hartford ,Ct Mary Hooker 1616 Amersham, Bucks, England or c 1624 Escher, Surrey, England d 4 Feb 1676 Milford, Ct )(13 Oct 1652 Mr Roger Newton, Stephen Hart, Thomas Judd, John Bronson, Thomas Thompson and Robert Porter join the Church Covenant at Farmington….. about month month later, Mrs. Newton…joined with them.
