I have traced my lineage to the Gilbert family of Ridgefield up to Ebenezer Gilbert and Julia Ann Bundy Gilbert of Ridgefield. I found Julia Bundy's heritage in NY, but Ebenezer Gilbert, born between 1808-1811 according to census records, left no trace of his parents.
I am aware that Ebenezer Gilbert who was born in Ridgefield around 1724 also had a son Ebenezer. I believe that my ancestor was a part of this line, because I have researched the Gilbert family of Ridgefield well, found that there is only one historical family, and that Ebenezer was a name that was passed through many generations.
I have a copy of a map around 1870 when Ebenezer and Julia Gilbert lived there, and it shows all the families and indicates that the Battle of Ridgefield took place there around 1776, during the Revolution. All the town records were apparently destroyed during that battle. I believe that is the cause of the gap. My ancestry undoubtedly goes back to the Ebenezer Gilbert who married Joanna Northrup, Hannah Bennett, and Prudence Burr b. 1724.
Ebenezer and Julia Gilbert's children were: Edwin b. 1840, Charles b. 1841, Josephine b. 1843, Martha b. 1846, Lewis b. 1827, and Henry K. b. 1850. Henry Gilbert m. Rachel Smith, and they were my ggg-grandparents.
I would appreciate any and all help, as I know the story of the lineage can be found somewhere in Ridgefield. -Deborah
