Hello local residents of Fairfield County, Connecticut! I am digging for a needle in a haystack, and I don't know any of the local history. It would help immensely if someone who knows something about the old families (more than 200 years ago, no less) might help me discover if there were any marriages between any of the Rockwells and the Porters prior to 1791. I am primarily looking for the Fairfield County, Ridgefield area, although some surrounding areas from Fairfield may also be of interest. Some of the head's of household listed in the 1790 census records for surname Rockwell in that area are Abraham, Abijah, Daniel, David, Joseph, Isaac; and for the Porter surname are James, Jonah, and Elizabeth (apparently a widow?) It appears from the order of the listing in the original census that Elizabeth Porter may have lived next to Isaac Porter, who apparently lived next to Joseph Porter. I am looking for a daughter of Rockwell/Porter lineage born in 1791 who was named Mary, but called Polly. I do not know her maiden name, but I know she was born in Connecticut in 1791. I also know she named her first two sons "Porter" and "Rockwell" and first two daughters "Sarah" and "Lydia". She married a man named Noble McKinstry and bore her first child in 1811 in the Northwest territory. If anyone knows of any marriages between the Porter's and Rockwell's of the area, I would loooove hearing about it.
