Below is a copy of my Uncles Obituary that That some kind soul found for me found recently In a newpaper in Stamford Connecticut.
the funeral service or George Clinton Legge was held this morning at the Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 20 Suburban Ave., The vecter Stanley F. Hemsley, rector of St. Johns Episcopal Church officiated. Interment was private.
Mr. Legge, of 552 Main Street died Monday at his home. Born 12/6/1925 in Providence, he was a Stamford resident for 3 years. He was a World War II veteran having served with the Marine Corps. Mr. Legge had been employed as a clerk in retail stores.
The only immediate survivior is his mother, Mrs. Mary Legge
It has saddened me to read this obituary that they thought they only had each other as my father who is 88 and ill now was Georges half brother....We have been searching for many years for George and my dads step-mother....Mary (McClinton) Legge--His step mother came here to USA from Scotland when my dad was just an infant and married his father Frank in 1924 right after my dads biological mother passed away Frank passed away in 1938...as the years passed and the Boys George and my dad and other half brothers entered the service and fought in WQorld War 2 Mary moved to Vermont to live with a sister untill George came home from the service. (George was the baby of the family)Then I guess went on to Stamford Connecticut around 1958. My dad still has letters from his brother George from 1944 while they were both overseas fighting in the war...
We think that his Mother Mary also died in Stamford not to many years after George died. 1961 to the 1970S.
We would really like to find her grave..It means a lot to my father as all his sibling are now deceased..It bothers him so to not know where his Step mother is.
If anyone knew of this family or who they may have lived with which we know Mary had a friend in Stamford (Name unknown)
Again they lived at 552 Main Street in Stamford Connecticut...Or if you knew of any retail stores that he perhaps could of wotked at in that area in 1961
Will thankyou in advance for any info
