Not to worry about being green. Everybody has to start someplace. As for census records, you can rent them at a Latter Day Saints (Mormons) Family History Center. You can also subscribe to some online at I do both. In this case, I also have the entire 1880 census on CD and was able to look up Walter in the index. That was what finally led me to this family. If he'd been born 5 months later, I wouldn't have found him. Of course, Harriet might still have been alive, as I presume she died in childbirth, so who knows.
