My maiden name is Cruzan. My father, William Stockbridge Cruzan Sr, was born in Washington, DC, April 26, 1906 to Cordelia (?)Cruzan. Dad did not grow up with his father that I am aware of. I was told his father left he and his mother when he was an infant and went to work for the CIA (by whatever name it was referred to as then) in Cuba. He never returned. My grandmother was German and came to the US with several sisters around the turn of the century. I once saw a photograph of them and I believe there were 6 or 7 of them. I do not know her maiden name, however. I have a half sister Charlotte Cruzan Hare who lives in Spokane WA who has all the old photos. When my Dad died in 1969, my Mom sent everything of his to her. I flew out to Spokane in 1992 and called everyone by her name in the phone book but came up empty. I was hoping to photocopy some of the photos and get to know her. I believe my Dad had a cousin named Byron Roberts who lived in New Brunswick NJ. When I was very small we'd drive up the NJ Turnpike to visit he and his wife. I only recently learned he was Dad's cousin. My Dad had a son, also William Jr, who I heard died a few years ago. I knew his kids when I was a kid (we were the same age roughly) and thought they were cousins. Didn't realize until later that I was their Aunt! I have a sister Carol Cruzan Russell who lives here in MD and a brother Merritt whose whereabouts are unknown. I'd be extremely interested in other Cruzans with whom I may be related. My mother used to have a coat of arms for Dad's family but she can't remember much about it now. I do not know where my grandfather is from. I am often asked if I am French or Spanish or Basque. I realize the name is the 3rd person plural for cross. Espanol?
