I am related to Gerrit Dirckson Kroesen. My father began researching our family in the 1950s. He spent many hours in libraries making handwritten notes and visiting people with the Cruson name that he found in phone books, where ever he traveled all over the country.
His most important finds were at the Mormon Library in Salt Lake, but he also went to Bucks Co. Pa. where part of the family settled, and also the Library of Congress. It became his hobby when I retired.
I have extensive information on my direct line which is through John (1765/7-1851) and Eleanor Ferrell (1780-1843), but also other information you might be interested in if your line took a different direction.
I have a letter that we got from a distant cousin of my father in about 1959 which contains information on the family that someone began many years previous. It was not signed, but it is believed to be a relative.
Quoting from that letter:
"France is where our fathers, the Crusons lived. We do know that our family were silk raisers and vine growers; that they fled into Holland to save their lives, and carried their silk worms with them."
"1750-Three Cruson brothers came to the United States. John and Garret came into Pennsylvania, and stayed together sometime near Pittsburg. (The third brother's name was Joshaway."
"CRUSON is not the way the French name was spelled or written. The Crusons I have found here near Pittsburg spell the name CRUZAN."
I seem to have more information on this family than anyone else I have found, but I am new to this program so maybe I just haven't found them yet.
I'd love share information with you or anyone else tracing this family.
