I believe John Crutchfield, husband of Sarah Statham, died before May 1839 as a resident of Wilkinson County. It is the Wilkinson County, GA Court that is involved.
Sarah, his wife, is reported to have died about 1829.Has anyone found court records indicating a widows dowery for Sarah Statham Crutchfield? So for there is no indication she outlived husband John. These two deaths would make their children orphans.
Orphan - a child whose father and mother are dead; formerly, a child whose father was dead but whose mother may have been living. The fact that guardians were appointed for them indicates an estate was involved and the minor children were heirs of it.
Live people don't leave estates.
John Crutchfield, Jr. (1823-1899) was the son of John & Sarah Statham Crutchfield.John, Jr. was married to Rachel Ann Beauchamp.
Available online 1830 Wilkinson co. GA census records do not indicate a John Crutchfield, however I have a note indicating he is listed there.
The 1840 census only names head of household. You cannot prove who the children (1 male, 1 female) indicated with William Statham at that time were.
