Crutcher Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Dale,
Don't know if I can help you find anyone or not, but the Richard Crutcher, formerly known as Dabbs, who died in Wichita Falls in 1915 is my 2nd Great Grandfather. His son Richard Charles Crutcher, 1866- 1949 is my great grandfather, and his son LeeRoy C 1894-1954, my grandfather. It was his son, LeRoy, my mother's brother, and my Uncle, who visited your relatives. Yes, there were many family rumors about the name change, and it had come to us as Babbs and Boyd, so they were CLOSE! We were still "mystified" about the possibility of Crutcher NOT being our actual line until your comments were spotted about Dabbs. The only name we ever had as a wife was Lucy Hamm until my husband saw that R C Dabbs was married to Louisa in the 1860 Census and Richard and his sister Ann living with Elizabeth Boyd, 73 in 1850 in Dist. 15, Madison, Tennessee along with MB Boyd, 30 head of household, Elizabeth Boyd, 10, John Boyd 8, and Lock Boyd, 4. Two Browns, Harvey, 30, and Lock, 27,also listed. Richard Dabbs was 13 and Ann Dabbs 11. That struck a cord. Could not ID any further back at the time. Looks like you have located correct info, yet you say Joseph W. Dabbs had Richard and Ann living with them in the Davidson Co. 1850 census. Will have to look at that census, too. Also, I saw on a message board that someone had asked why the name Crutcher when Richard's mother, a Dabbs, had married a Milton B. Boyd. What is the positive proof of this Dabbs connection to Crutcher? I know there was a Dabbs Family History published in the '70s maybe. Did you ever get the book and find this connection? Many years ago, I was in contact with a Rev. Thomas Crutcher in Nashville and he said his family was not a part of mine, according to his records, further complicating matters. Could you clarify all this for me, please? Thanks.
Pam
