Hi Pat,

Yes, William Coppard Crundwell & Harriet Waghorn were my great great grandparents, so it looks like we are distant cousins.

One of their sons was my great grandfather Henry, who also called himself George, though he had a younger brother also named George - there is an interesting story behind this.

George (Henry) Crundwell was born 1839 at Etchingham in Sussex, though the family had earlier connections with Penshurst in Kent. He married Mary Ann Partis born 4th May 1848 Mill Hill, Poplar at Woolwich 3rd October 1869 - and he died 1910 at Woolwich, he worked at Woolwich Arsenal after leaving the army

They had 12 children:

George Henry m. 1st Elizabeth ? 2nd ? Andrews
Mary Ann (b. 1872 d.1873)
William Thomas
Walter John
Richard Ernest m. Adelaide Mary Dutnell
Jemima May (b. 1880 d. 1882)
Arthur Edward
Oliver Harold (my grandfather) m. Elizabeth Howes
Sidney Herbert m. Daisy Beasor
Stanley Horace (b. 1887 d. 1893)
Ethel May m. Stanley Lefever
Martha Maud m Tom Wright

George’s father, William Coppard Crundwell married again after Harriet Waghorn died in 1857 and with his new wife Ann Hursell – the family emigrated to Australia in 1858, but the two eldest sons William Thomas Crundwell & George Henry (who’s real name was Henry) decided to remain in England.

The children who went to Australia were:

George Crundwell
Harriet Crundwell
Mary Crundwell
Walter Crundwell

And in Gunning, New South Wales, Australia, William Crundwell and his 2nd wife Anne Hursell had two more children:

Alfred Edward Crundwell
Emily Crundwell

I have a photograph of William Coppard Crundwell and can e-mail you a copy.

Please let me know where you fit into this.
is your George The 'George' Henry who stayed in England, or the George who went to Australia ?

Hope to hear from you soon.
