Rev. J. K. Grimes was METHODIST, according to McKelvey's "Centennial History of Belmont County" (1903);he is listed as minister of the St. Clairsville Methodist Episcopal Church from 1900 (on page 251).Because Rev. Grimes and his wife Ada were enumerated at St. Clairsville in the 1900 Census, I started poking around in Belmont County websites, and eventually found an index to the 1903 Centennial History and then an on-line version of the book itself. After ministering in Harrison County in the 1880s, it seems Rev. Grimes returned to Belmont County where he had grown up; by 1910 they were living in West Virginia and by 1920 in Pittsburgh. So Finley Crumrine and Mahala Barr were married in 1880 by a Methodist minister, presumably the minister of the church attended by the bride's family who lived in Franklin Township of Harrison County.Rev. Grimes and his wife were enumerated in Monroe Township in the 1880 Census, but the two townships are adjacent so the church he served could easily have been located in either.Plum Run Methodist Church, for example, is on the Monroe side but close to the townships' common border. The village of Tappan, where Finley and Mahala lived at the time he died in 1898, was on the Franklin side but again close to the border.I'll have to check what other Methodist churches were in these townships that the Barr family might have attended.I also need to confirm just where the Barr family lived; I believe John Barr was a shoemaker and had a shoe shop in Tappan (or Franklin if that was a village as well as a township).
