Raymond, I will have to agree with Bill Gann on this one. In 1643 Charles River County wad renamed "York". The northern boundry of Charles River/York was the southern boundry of the Indian District of Chickacoan. This District was changed to Northumberland in 1645, and it was from this land that Lancaster was formed.
Charles River/York included land on both sides of the York River, and Northumberland included land on both sides of the Rappahannock, but York county never included land that included Chickacoan/Northumberland/Lancaster.
I do agree that the northern boundry (of Virginia) was set by the Maryland Charter of 1632, therefore making this area within the state boundry, but the Chickacoan was not a Virginia County until Northumberland was formed.
My source for this may be incorrect, but I am using "AniMap Plus" County Boundry Historical Atlas by The Gold Bug, Alamo, California.
