Descendants of William Crump Some of these children are merely speculative and should NOT really be considered a FACT Excuse any errors please as I have had lots of out of town visitors and callers and I am rushing to do the things I need to do as well as aid long lost friends in life crisis. I have stopped repeatedly in putting this together and talked all night to someone at the kitchen table discussing life and life management and recipes with fresh jalepeno peppers and scrambled eggs. :-) Robert, Hannah, Mary, and Francis are proven children. Skordas’ named a son John in his importation’s book, however no further mention of John was found. John either died or he was in fact the John Crump of Prince William County VA who died in 1748 or another unknown. 1. I will make some observations and these too are NOT facts, they are merely my viewpoint and totally unconfirmed and undocumented. This line seems to be connected to another William Crump, however the younger William could have come from three families. William living in Fairfax in 1782 may have been either the grandson of William of MD or the son of John Crump of Prince William; last the William of Fairfax might have come from New Kent County also. Three Crump men worked for George Washington in various capacities, William, Charles, 1st, and Turner Crump, the first of five to six later Turners . There was a William Crump who had a wife named Hannah and a daughter named Nancy, and this William leased part of the Fitzhugh Patent called “Ravensworth” in Fairfax County, in 1754. The maps and sectionals show this land to be near the land of Adam Crump. A long time Crump researcher J. Griffin Crump related that a William Crump lived just below Mt., Vernon. To have been 21 in 1754 this William was born by 1733, and is older that the William of the 1782 Fairfax tax list Many items seem to blur the lines on the two or possibly one William Crumps in VA and MD before 1650 and 1663. The older William of the 1782 census was too young it seems to me to be the William with the wife Hannah. I did find a reference in King’s Will Book on Fairfax County of a “Liddy Crump” and a William Crump mentioned in John Speake's will, The Speake family was from Shropshire County England. I have carefully done charts on the census figures of William and William Crump Junior in Fairfax County. I conclude there is a real possibility That “Liddy Crump” wife of William MAY have been Elizabeth Speake. It is possible that the olfest of the possible three William Crumps based upon estimation of ages from census and existing records. I do not have the date on the Fairfax will or note because I gave my will books to the library. :-( The POSSIBLE but not proven sons of the elder William in 1782 are, William, Stephen, Daniel, George, a John and others unknown. Stephen is said by various genealogist to have come straight from Wales, however I doubt this because Stephen was married to a Sisson. There was a Sisson in this area for a long time and Caleb Sison was a Scout, Indian guide and hunter; the family had been there since Colonial times and I suspect Stephen Crump had too. I did the notes at the Fairfax Courthouse and William Crump was noted in the existing indexes for Court Minutes, as a Plantiff, Defendant, Juror, Sheriff, and other mentions. William, Daniel and Stephen had suits against different Powell men, and George married a Jane Powell. These references make it clear the Crump surname was often found with other surnames in two locations, the Southside, and the Northern Neck. Researchers should check all the books the Speracios have transcribed probably well over two hundred. All of the Crumps in the second William Crump’s family of Fairfax County apparently were in Truro Parish and in 1830, William, William Jr., John, Daniel and George, five of them were listed as being in Northumberland County. One comment that I would make is of Robert when he married Jane. The mention of Robert’s name in 1719 in a land deal suggests he was born by 1688, however Frances Mountney would have been much to old to have been Roberts mother so William must have had another wife. I am now wondering if William of MD had a second wife and when Frances died. A marriage in 1731 means the Robert if the same Robert was minimally 43 years old when he married Jane. The surname Powell came from the Southside and this Robert might have been the one in New Kent County who married Martha POWELL. I have quite a bit on the POWELLS, and a researcher named Robert Strong was a prolific poster on the Powell family list with many records. I strongly suggest anyone interested in the Powells Look at this list. I have several Powell women in my own genealogy. ***again Thomas Speake was from Shropshire County England where another Adam Crump different from Adam Crump of VA was born, and about the same age or younger than Ed Crump’s Adam Crump The other Adam’s parents were William Crump and Mary.
