Found this article in the Coffeyville Daily Journal paper of Coffeyville, KS. Don't believe it to be my family of Crum's but always on the lookout for the surname.

Butchered by Boys

A revolting tale of Indian butchery is embodied in a confession made by two Choctaw boys. Several days ago the dead body of LEE CRUM , a white man, 24 years of age, was found on the bank of the Kiamichi river, two miles north of Dallas. The body had been scalped and otherwise mutilated. Two boys confessed to the crime, stating they had made an agreement to kill a white man. The boys ran across CRUM and proceeded to carry the agreement into effect. They shot their victim and were then scared away by his manoevres with a sixshooter, which proved to be empty, They did not return to the scene for several day, but when the did, they found their victim had vanished, but had left a bloody trail, which they followed and soon came upon CRUM still alive. They fell upon him and with their knives finished their hellish work, cutting the victims throat, scalping him and otherwise mutilating the remains. They give as their reason for the crime, that they had decided that the United State was no good and they wanted to do something to help the cause of the poor Indians.
