Dear Ellen, I wish I could hug you. You just gave us more clues and statements that we ever dared hope for. Lucinda's connection to Hooker Gilbert Hubbard. William's first wife and children from that marriage. The idea that he could have deserted from the British army sounds plausible - or at least definitely worth going further with. I love the stories. The stories are things we hunger for somehow!

I hope that the email address that shows here is a good one for you. I will send scans of copies of papers I copied in the archives. scans of copies are not the best, but when I was there I had no portable scanner. I have so much that I will just send a few things first to see what you want. You can take a look and let me know. I made many copies of the details of his injury at Gettysburg and the surgeon's affidavits and his applications for pension funds. What a tale that is!

I also have a picture of LaFayette's three daughters, Maude, Emma and Effie. you may have it, you may not. But since Effie is your grandmother, I think you will be happy to see this trio of lovely girls. They were my grandfather's cousins - I have imagined that they - or their father - sent the picture to Paul Crum - cousin to cousin maybe.

I also copied some of the papers LaFayette filled out for his pension funds. So there is documentation for mary Osborne and for Fred, Emma, Effie and Maude's dates of birth on them, as well as his date of marriage to Mary.

Let's continue in email! Thank you so much for all of this! Thank you thank you thank you. I hope I can give you just a tiny bit as much as you have given us.

Stephanie Hadler
